Prostate cancer will affect a large amount of men sometime during their lives. Men, especially white men over the age of 50 and black men over the age of 40, should be well aware of the symptoms of prostate cancer. It is important to be informed of what to look for when it comes to prostate cancer.

Prostate Cancer Warning Signs

Sadly there are no real warning signs or even symptoms of prostate cancer in the early stages. Once the prostate gland swells significantly due to a malignant tumor or once the cancer has spread to areas that are beyond the prostate a person will experience some symptoms. A need to frequently urinate, especially during the night is a sign of prostate cancer. A man may also have a hard time starting and stopping the flow of urine. Other signs include a burning sensation or even pain when a man urinates or ejaculates after sex. The urination steam may also be interrupted or weak and there may be traces of blood in a man’s semen or urine. While these are not symptoms directly related to the prostate cancer itself they are symptoms caused by the blockage of the growth that is within the prostate and its surrounding tissues.

Advanced prostate cancer Symptoms

There are several advanced prostate cancer symptoms that men need to be aware of. These symptoms include weight loss, loss of appetite, tiredness or fatigue, nausea and vomiting. A man with prostate cancer may also experience swelling of his lower extremities along with an incessant dull, deep pain along with stiffness within the lower back, upper thighs, ribs, pelvis and arthritic pain within the bones that are located in these areas.

Call Your Physician

There are several symptoms that may occur. If any of these symptoms occur it is best to contact your physician to alert him that you are having issues. If you have weight loss or swelling in your legs that is unexplained it is important to inform your doctor. Also inform your physician if you have painful or abnormal urination or find it hard to urinate. When this happens your physician will need to examine the prostate to see whether it is inflamed due to an infection or if it may be cancer. Also if you experience ongoing pain in the lower back, upper thighs, pelvis or other areas of your body you should contact your physician because any ongoing pain should be reviewed by a physician.
