Term Definition
Palpation

Feeling with the hand or fingers, by applying light pressure.

Parenteral

Taken into the body in a way other than the digestive tract, usually injected in a muscle or vein.

Parkinson disease

A slowly progressive neurologic disease characterized by a fixed inexpressive face, a tremor at rest, slowing of voluntary movements, a gait with short accelerating steps, peculiar posture and muscle weakness, caused by degeneration of an area of the brain called the basal ganglia , and by low production of the neurotransmitter dopamine . Most patients are over 50, but at least 10 percent are under 40. Also known as paralysis agitans and shaking palsy.

Pelvic

Having to do with the pelvis, the lower part of the abdomen, located between the hip bones.

Pelvis

The part of the body that is framed by the hip bones.

Penile

Of or pertaining to the penis.

Penile arterial bypass surgery

A surgical procedure that provides an alternate pathway to bring blood flow into the penis that does not rely on the obstructed artery.

Penile biothesiometry

A test that uses electromagnetic vibration to determine sensitivity and nerve function of the penis.

Penile implant

An inflatable penile prosthesis surgically placed in the penis. It allows a man to have an erection whenever he chooses.

Penile injection

A medication that is injected into the penis in order to produced an erection.

Penile prosthesis

A device that is surgically placed into the penis that allows a man with erectile dysfunction to have an erection.

Penis

The male organ that is used for urination and intercourse.

Performance anxiety

When a person anticipates some sort of problem occurring during sex.

Perineal

Of or relating to the perineum.

Perineum

The area between the anus and the scrotum in the male and between the anus and the vulva (the labial opening to the vagina) in the female. An episiotomy is a surgical procedure to widen the outlet of the birth canal to facilitate delivery of the baby and avoid a jagged rip of the perineum.
